For the first time in 30 years, my mother Eileen Perini is not participating in the Walk. While her passing last March marked the end of a life dedicated to cancer survivorship, I am hoping her legacy will inspire you to support Team Perini to benefit her beloved Perini Family Survivor Center at the Dana Farber.
In 1989 Mom did her first Jimmy Fund Walk to honor her son, my brother Dave, Jr., who was battling Ewing’s sarcoma. Dave died soon after, at age 26. Over the years since then Mom’s commitment to the Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund was been unwavering, sustained by memories of Dave and continually strengthened by the DFCI's inspirational level of research and patient care.
Mom truly loved the annual walk. It was a way for her to heal from her own grief while supporting those still challenged by the effects of cancer on their lives. The Perini Clinic at the Dana-Farber has led the field of survivorship, first with the pediatric-focused David B. Perini, Jr. Quality of Life Clinic, and more recently through the Adult Survivorship Program – known together as the Perini Family Survivor’s Center.
Will you join me in honoring Mom’s legacy with your support? Truly no gift is to small. Mom cared more about the people who gave than the amounts they could offer.
Many thanks and take care,
