Dear Friends and Family,
This Fall I am going to miss crossing the Boston Jimmy Fund Walk finish line in Copley Square amidst the many cheering spectators for the thousands of walkers raising funds for Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Due to an abundance of caution, this year’s walk has moved to the walkers own neighborhood. I plan to walk 26.2 miles on the nature trails and beaches of Cape Cod. Because fundraising events have been cancelled or diminished this year, Dana Farber’s budget is reduced partially curtailing their cancer research efforts to find cutting edge treatments and cures. This year more than ever Dana Farber needs your donation.
These monies fund the researchers at Dana Farber who have discovered, tested, and implemented new chemotherapy, gene therapy, and immunotherapy modalities to treat numerous cancers improving the odds of patients fighting cancer. Unfortunately some cancers are more difficult to treat than others. Over the years I have celebrated with friends or relatives whose treatments were successful and mourned with family members of ones who were not so fortunate. Hopefully with more funding and research more lives will be saved.
Every year I walk for someone I know diagnosed with cancer. I do not have to throw a wide net. Somehow there is always a person close to my heart. This year I walk to honor a retired teacher, husband, father, grandfather, neighbor, and a generous and active community volunteer diagnosed with a brain tumor. Along my walk I am guided by my shining light and inspiration, my niece Jackie who succumbed to sarcoma in 2019.
All of the funds raised through the walk enable the leaders at Dana Farber Cancer Institute to apply monies rapidly when promising new research opportunities arise. Your gift also enhances the programs and initiatives that serve patients and their families who look to Dana Farber for its signature “total patient care philosophy.”
I know with all the economic uncertainties, this year everyone’s financial situation is different. but if you can, I urge you to contribute to my walk. Please donate what you can or just send words of encouragement. Cancer does not quarantine for Covid-19. Daily adults and children receive new cancer diagnoses and are undergoing treatments..
You can contribute by clicking on Give on the upper right hand corner of the Jimmy Fund Walk home page and inserting my name in the Search for Participant : www.jimmyfundwalk.org.
or by making a check made out to The Jimmy Fund Walk and mailing it to me.
Thank you for supporting Dana Farber and The Jimmy Fund. Your contribution is greatly appreciated. Donations will be accepted through November 1, 2020.
All the best
