Last week's post... You, my friends, are all AMAZING!! In less than 1 week, you rallied the battle cry and "walked" us to our fundraising goal of $2,600 - THANK YOU SO MUCH! With just under 2 weeks to go, I am challenging us (and yes, I'm in on this too) to spread the word and see if we can power walk our way to the $3,000 mark. Please feel free to spread the word to family and friends - to anyone who wants to join us in the battle against cancer.
I will be lacing up my sneakers to hit the road on our 4th annual Jimmy Fund Walk. The 2021 Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk (presented by Hyundai), is once again a "Walk Your Way" event - taking steps toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer!
Each year when I walk, it is in honor and memory of SO MANY (in fact, far TOO many) friends, acquaintances and family members of friends who are fighting (or have fought) valiant fights against cancer.
Do you know Terri? Becky? Lisa? Beth? Chris? John? Henny? Julie? Christine? Chitsanzo? Another Lisa? Karen? Dave? Mary? Kevin? Sonja? Another Dave? Patty? Carol? Kate? I bet you know at least one of these brave warriors who are kicking their cancer to the curb and staying strong as they go through treatments and undergo surgeries. They are STRONG!
Did you know Margie? Bernard? Doris? Nancy? Christine? Jean? Kathy? These warriors fought their battle with strength, grace and dignity but ultimately, the cancer won. They were TOUGH and held on with all they had but there wasn't enough time to find a cure.
Do you know Jen? Jen is a mother of 2 beautiful young ladies, a beautiful wife, a dear friend and a FIERCE warrior who has been battling breast cancer for almost 10 years. After a 2 year window of remission, she was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer and it was spreading. Fast forward 6 years, multiple treatments, doctor appointments, trial therapies and treatments - this incredibly tough warrior has made the difficult decision to rely on Dana-Farber's hospice team to care for her through this next battle in her personal war. She is NOT giving up! She is NOT quitting! She is a fighter and is determined to live her days beautifully and in faith. Cancer will not be her last word or legacy.
It is in Jen's honor that I will walk 26 miles on October 3rd. Each step and each mile will be purposefully completed, taking Jen and each of the names above with me as a reminder of why blisters or sore muscles are no big deal - there is no whining!
When you make a gift to my walk this year, you will be directly supporting Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s unique 50-50 balance between cutting-edge science and compassionate patient care. Your support allows Dana-Farber leaders to enhance programs and initiatives that serve pediatric and adult patients and their families - just like Jen's and the many other names listed above.
Thank you for supporting my Jimmy Fund Walk. Our new goal is $3,000 - and I am confident we can reach it. Together, our efforts will continue to provide research, treatments, care and hope - all as we continue toward the day when we can conquer cancer! I hope you'll join me! Thank you, Dawn
