Dear Family and Friends,
I hope you are all staying safe and healthy.
On Sunday, October 4, I will once again lace up my walking shoes to participate in the 2020 Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk: Your Way presented by Hyundai. I am so grateful for your past support of my fundraising efforts and I am reaching out today to ask for your continued generosity in honor of our 13 year old grandson, Graham, who is a Walk Hero again this year.
On June 9th Graham had another MRI and the result was NED, no evidence of disease, almost two years post treatment. Graham received his diagnosis of Medulloblastoma, a pediatric brain cancer on 11/28/2017. He continues to be monitored very closely, his next MRI is scheduled in October. My heart overflows with joy as I see Graham, his parents, Kyle and Emily and sister, Meg return to a more normal life. Thank you so much Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, The Jimmy Fund and Boston Children's Hospital, we are so blessed and I am forever grateful.
I was slow to commit to this years Walk because of the COVID-19 pandemic. I was in NJ from mid March through May and on a two week rotation ever since caregiving for my 95 year old Mom who is spending out her days at home. Fortunately we have the support of Hospice which is so very helpful. I am scheduled to be in VT on Sunday, October 4. I am planning my really long walk route from our front door ending on the town green in Weston after weaving my way along the numerous back roads of the Weston, Londonderry, Andover area.
Last year we collectively raised $8004 in Graham's honor. $8.8 million was raised by the enthusiastic group of 8500 participants. My personal 26.2 mile journey took 11 hours and 18 minutes walking 68,911 steps. Another memorable day forever etched in my heart and mind.
With your past support, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute has been able to accomplish great things including:
- Identifying biomarkers that can help predict which patients will benefit from immunotherapy
- Our research led to FDA approval of a new first-line treatment for advanced kidney cancer
- Enhancing access to care both locally and globally, including opening facilities in China and Haiti as well as making progress on new satellite locations within New England.
Dana-Farber has ambitious goals for what it hopes to accomplish in the future and that is why I have set my goal once again try to raise $8000 through my participation in this year’s Jimmy Fund Walk. Can I count on your support once again?
During this most difficult time of COVID-19 cancer has not taken a vacation, the nightmare of a cancer diagnosis continues as it has before for so many people no matter their age, race or economic reality. I am pleased to once again help support their treatment and cures. Please join me by making a contribution of any amount you are comfortable with during this challenging time.
