Although the walk is going to look a lot different this year than it has in the past, the reason we walk remains the same. Each person involved in the Jimmy Fund Walk is there to honor, love and support those in their lives that have been affected by this disease. I walk for my brother Joe. Joe was diagnosed in first grade with non-hodgkins lymphoma. This diagnosis, as many unfortunately know, rocked my family's world. I went from a spunky fourth grader who was concerned about getting the coolest bratz doll to trying to keep track of when my brother would be getting treatment so I could prepare. My parents went from worrying about school and practices and the normal pressures of parenting to logging when my brother took each of his pills, vacuuming his hair off the pillow when it came out in chunks from chemo, and trekking back and forth from the hospital.
Although this was a dark time in all of our lives, there was a bright spot: The Jimmy Fund. The Jimmy Fund gave the most top-notch medical care to my brother, but beyond that the emotional support they provided to our family could never be matched. I walk to support all of those that supported my family, and to continue to fight to live in a world without this terrible disease.
Thank you to my friends and family for their continued love and support - I would not be where I am without you all.
