Hello dear friends and family,
Once again I am walking with thousands of others to raise money which goes directly to support research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to find better and more effective treatments, markers to find cancers early when they' re more treatable, and CURES for people who have a cancer diagnosis.
This past year has been a tough one for some or many. Some have been sick themselves and others have had family members die of Covid. We have all had changes in our everyday lives in the effort to stay well and protect those we love. Many have lost their jobs. It is with all of this in mind that I still ask you to support my walk to support the very best research possible to help us all deal with cancer.
As you know each year I am part of a retreat to support women who have a diagnosis of ovarian cancer. With lots of help, the 2020 retreat was virtual. Since the November retreat 8 more women have died of their disease. My friend Sally, the maker of over 10,000 little stars of hope which she gave out to any one diagnosed with cancer, died earlier this year. Dawn, who always made others laugh no matter how she felt, died as well. These two women as well as countless others took part in clinical trials so that others coming along would be able to enjoy life.
My dear friend Elaine was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and has died recently. My long time friend Judy died after a brief time with lung cancer. My heart is sad, thinking about all the people I know who have to deal with cancer, but it is also hopeful, as scientists and doctors work hard to find more effective treatments. Many people are living longer and enjoying life better despite their diagnosis. There is a lot to be hopeful about, but to keep this kind of hope alive we need to support it!
So, this fall I will be walking most especially for Peggy, Alice, Kim, Sally, Corrine, Dawn, Joanne, Patti, Kathy, Christine, Rebecca, Judy, and Elaine.
Thank you for your continued generosity and care.
With much love,
