I am walking for the first time in this fundraiser in honor of my beloved husband, Edward, who lost his valiant 5-year battle with anaplastic thyroid cancer on October 29, 2017. He was the love of my life and my best friend, and an extraordinary human being, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, neighbor, scholar, singer, woodworker, dancer, gardener, writer and historian. Losing him has been the most difficult life challenge I've ever had to face, and I grieve for him and miss him every single day.
I am walking to honor his memory and in support of his amazing team of doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, respiratory therapists, surgeons, nutritionists and support staff at Dana Farber who walked along side us and supported us during our long journey. I am walking to somehow make a difference to beat the beast that is cancer that has taken so much from me and our family, and from so many other countless folks also walking this walk.
When you make a gift to my walk, you’re directly supporting the Thyroid Center's thyroid cancer research. Their combination of cutting edge science and clinical care is unique. They have made much progress but much work remains to be done. I am deeply honored to be walking with some of his medical team on Team Thyroid this year who I consider part of my family still.
While my fundraising goal is lofty, I know there is such a large community of folks who knew, loved, cherished and respected Edward and I have high hopes of reaching my goal. Expect me to be back next year and onward into the future with a similar request until the battle against cancer is won. If you feel so moved to do more, join Team Thyroid and walk with us on September 23.
Thank you, all dear friends, for all your love and support.
