For the past two decades, I have been helping to raise funds for The Jimmy Fund in support of children and families suffering from the effects of cancer… in 2002, it was an honor to join the Walk Team initiated by Will Kraft in 2001 when he was actively battling a persistent brain tumor.
(Since 1987 I have been working in the Kraft household as Dr Gail Kraft’s pediatric office manager in her home as she and her husband were also raising their 5 children. - The Krafts are like family to me.)
William was the oldest child and he was always perfectly
healthy until one day in January 1995 his junior year at the University of Pennsylvania, he was suddenly blindsided by a terrible diagnosis.
After battling through years of treatments, Will recovered to the extent that he and his best friend Howie Parnes
walked the entire 26.2 miles to raise funds for Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk in 2001. Will named their team “Built for Comfort, Not for Speed”.
In September 2002, droves of friends and family all joined his Walk Team in support of his 26.2 mile effort to raise funds that would give hope and help other families suffering similar fates.
In February 2003, William passed away surrounded by his family after droves of friends and family came to visit in his final days. Since 2003, his family and friends continue to walk in his honor for Jimmy Fund Walk Team “In Memory of Will Kraft”.
This year, we walk only virtually but we continue to raise funds to help other families who may benefit from the clinical research these funds provide to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
I walk in honor of William, in support of his family, and in memory of so many other loved ones lost too soon. Please consider giving a contribution to support our efforts in honor of your loved ones, if you can.
Thank you for supporting my participation in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. Together, we can conquer cancer!
