I did the full Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk for about 18 years but ceased doing so after completing the 2008 Walk when I turned 75 years of age. At the conclusion of the 2008 Walk, my cumulative donations raised amounted to $96,627.55 .I was just short of the $100,000 level which had been my goal. At that point I made a commitment to myself that I would come back when I’m 80 years old to try to achieve the $100,000 level. I did in fact register to do the Walk when I turned 80 years old in 2013 but for circumstances I can’t remember, I actually didn’t participate in the 2013 Walk. As such, I’m back at it again in my 85th year to break thru the cumulative $100,000 fundraising level. However, my memory reminds me how tough it was to do the full 26 miles when I was 75years old. I have thus decided that 13.1 miles is about all I can expect from an 85 year old body.
