I am participating in the 2024 Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai, taking steps toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer.
When you make a donation to my Walk, you’re directly supporting Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s unique balance between cutting-edge research and compassionate patient care. Your support allows Dana-Farber leaders to enhance programs and initiatives that serve pediatric and adult patients and their families.
I started walking in 2016, in support of a dear family friend who was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer in her early 30's. Then in 2022, my husband Tom was diagnosed with ocular melanoma which is also extremely rare, affecting only about 5 out of one million people a year, worldwide. With the sight in that eye almost gone at diagnosis, he decided to have the eye removed, instead of radiation treatment. He has a beautiful, handmade (amazing process) artificial eye and got right back to busy life and even golf! This type of cancer has a strong chance of recurrence. About 90 percent of metastatic disease occurs in the liver, so Tom is receiving bloodwork and scans every four months at Dana Farber. We are so lucky and grateful to be receiving this world-class care.
So, now I walk for Rachel and Tom and so many others who have already conquered cancer, those that are fighting now, and in memory of those who have been lost.
Thank you for supporting my Jimmy Fund Walk fundraising efforts. Together, we can defy cancer!
