This year we will again walk "Our Way" in the shadow of the Covid epidemic - rather than the Boston Marathon route. With the heightened awareness of the health of those around us, let us also remember those with life threatening disease.
I walk in memory of my daughter, Mary O'Reilly, who died of ovarian cancer in 2009 at the age of 45 and her friend, Stephanie Martin, who died of the same disease in 2010, and all of our many friends who have been touched by cancer of all types.
Each year, approximately 22,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the United States and about 15,000 American women die from the disease. OVARIAN CANCER BRIGADE'S goal is to raise $60K for research which will be directed to The Dr. Ursula Matulonis Ovarian Cancer Research Fund at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Dr. Matulonis is dedicated to research, early detection, quality of life and ultimately and ideally-- a cure for ovarian cancer which if caught early enough is a highly treatable disease.
We walk for those we have lost and those who are currently fighting the battle. Ovarian cancer strikes only women, but it’s everyone’s battle. Please let’s not lose any more.
