I am participating in the 2018 Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai, taking steps toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer!
My experience with Dana-Farberand The Jimmy Fund began 27 years ago when Kirstin , our daughter 7 years old was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma. It was August 1991 shortly after our 10th anniversary when we went to Childrens Hospital Boston for the first time and almost didn't leave for a year. Kirstin received the best of care and today she is an adjunct Professor teaching theatre at Young Harris College. In addition to acting in many local theater projects, she performed as Lady Macbeth to great review. Kirstin started a non-profit "Venture Shakespeare" bringing the joy of acting to local youth in Asheville NC
In 2011 Jeanne was diagnosed with Glioblastoma and of course we traveled to Boston to receive the best care at Dana-Farber . Despite the great treatment from our team led by Dr Rinne that included several trial therapies, Jeanne unfortunately succumbed to the brain tumor. She died at home on May 21 2014 .
When you make a gift to my walk, you’re directly supporting Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s unique 50-50 balance between cutting-edge science and highly compassionate cancer care. Your support allows Dana-Farber leaders to enhance programs and initiatives that serve pediatric and adult patients and their families.
Thank you for supporting my participation in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. Together, we can conquer cancer!
