I am participating in the 2020 Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk: Your Way presented by Hyundai, as a dedication to the memory of my wife, Rhonda Htoo, who died of lung cancer August 31, 2017.
The Jimmy Fund Walk was very important to Rhonda. It was her way of resisting the disease that claimed her life. She became energized and hopeful participating in the walk. It was her way of pushing back against the cancer that ended her life. She told me that it was the most important thing she did. I substituted for her in 2017, just weeks after she died, to honor her memory and wishes. I have walked in every Jimmy Fund Walk since then. I am continuing her tradition.
The pandemic completely changed the Jimmy Fund walk as well as everything else. Since we can't walk the Marathon route all together, I decided to walk again on the paths, trails and walks Rhonda loved: the beach at Old Orchard, from Ferry beach to PIne Point; the Head of the Meadow trail in Truro; the beaches in Truro, Wellfleet and P-town; the trails at Sandy Pond, Twin Ponds, Codman Farm, Mount Misery, and de Cordova in Lincoln; Middlesex Fells; Fresh Pond in Cambridge; the Charles River in both Boston and Cambridge; Battle Road in Lexington and Lincoln; the Minuteman Rail Trail in Arlington, Lexington and Bedford. No doubt, I am forgetting some walks that Rhonda loved.
For me, this is about remembering Rhonda. Please show your support by contributing to a cause she believed in.
When you make a gift to Rhonda's Memory walk, you’re directly supporting Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s unique 50-50 balance between cutting-edge science and highly compassionate cancer care. Your support allows Dana-Farber leaders to enhance programs and initiatives that serve pediatric and adult patients and their families.
Thank you for supporting my participation in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. Together, we can conquer cancer!
