Dear Family and Friends,
It’s hard for me to believe that another year has flown by so quickly. I hope you are all having a wonderful summer and a healthy and fulfilling year.
Today, I am reaching out to you because once again I am planning on participating in the 2024 Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk to be held on October 6, 2024. I am hoping you can help by contributing to this amazing and worthwhile cause which supports the efforts of Dana-Farber in their tireless fight against cancer. The Jimmy Fund has raised millions of dollars since 1948 and has helped save countless lives and reduce the impact of cancer on families through the generosity of people like you.
In 2024, approximately 611,720 deaths from cancer are expected. Cancer is the second most common cause of death in the US exceeded only by heart disease. Everyone is at risk of developing cancer although the incidence increases greatly by age (and unfortunately, we’re not getting any younger). This disease affects almost everyone in some way, and it impacts the lives of our friends, families and communities. As I am writing this letter, we have just lost a dear friend to pancreatic cancer, and several of our friends and neighbors are currently waging their own battles.
It has been six years since my husband, Stuart, fought his battle with pancreatic cancer. He has been able to enjoy six more years with our family to watch our children become the wonderful adults that they are. Six more years of health to spend with friends and to continue to make meaningful contributions to the community. We will be forever grateful to the doctors and staff at Dana-Farber for their steadfast commitment and guidance through his initial cancer diagnosis, surgery, treatment and follow-up care. He continues to be seen regularly and screened for any indication of recurrence. Dana-Farber has also provided our family with guidance for such genetic mutations of BRCA1 and BRCA2 which will allow our children to be proactive about their own future healthcare.
We have witnessed firsthand the impact that Dana-Farber can make through early detection and intervention, cutting-edge therapies and their compassionate care. However, the excellent care and ongoing research cannot be achieved without financial support. And that is where your donation, no matter how big or small, can make a real difference to improve the outcomes for patients who have been diagnosed with cancer. Too many people are suffering and dying from cancer. Your contribution CAN make a difference!
When you contribute to the Jimmy Fund Walk, you are helping to create a future where cancer is no longer a deadly threat. Please consider donating to my fundraising efforts and supporting Dana-Farber’s important work.
