Next Sunday, October 4th I will be walking with Team Rita in the 2020 Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. I am choosing to walk again because it is something I CAN do to make a difference. I want to walk to the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer!
My dear friend Karen Walsh Fortin started this team in honor of her mother, who passed away from cancer. Karen's father, Ed, has always been a part of Team Rita, but passed away a little over a month ago. His presence will be missed greatly, but his spirit will be with our team and in our hearts.
Like many of you, I've lost both family and friends to cancer. It's heartbreaking to watch someone you know endure so much pain and to feel so helpless - knowing that all you can do is to make them feel comfortable and to hold their hand throughout their difficult journey. I've watched powerful uncles become helpless to this horrible disease. I've supported many friends who have battled this disease and fear its existence while in remission.
Walking is something I can do. Any little bit that you can give will help. If we unite together, we can make a difference.
When you make a gift to my walk, you're directly supporting Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's unique 50-50 balance between cutting-edge science and highly compassionate cancer care. Your support allows Dana-Farber leaders to enhance programs and initiatives that serve pediatric and adult patients and their families.
Please sponsor and support my participation in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. Together, we can conquer cancer!
Thank you, Kara
