I am participating in the 2019 Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai, taking steps toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer!
Forty-four years ago I lost my Aunt Mimi to cancer. Eight years ago I lost my mother Bunny Aaron to cancer.
After mom died, I started walking as my own therapy. Every day, winter and summer, sunshine and snow. Every. Day. From my house, up Parker Street into Newton Center and back (with the necessary DD stop along the way).
And it worked. The rhythm of my footfalls helped me organize my thoughts and the miles eased the pain.
But I didn’t ever stop. I’m still walking every day.
Last year the Jimmy Fund walk was on my birthday. I thought that was a great way to celebrate and to challenge myself. The challenge of not only walking the entire Boston Marathon route (which was amazing!), but of raising funds for cancer research (I’m not a natural at that).
When you make a gift to my walk, you’re directly supporting Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s unique 50-50 balance between cutting-edge science and highly compassionate cancer care. Your support allows Dana-Farber leaders to enhance programs and initiatives that serve pediatric and adult patients and their families.
Thank you for supporting my participation in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. Together, we can conquer cancer!
