WHY I'M FUNDRAISING WITH THE JIMMY FUND WALK TO FIGHT CANCER
Please help us fight childhood cancer!
It is that time of year again when Team Silver Strong participates in the Jimmy Fund Walk to raise money for childhood cancer.
We are walking in memory of my nephew Jake, who passed away in February 2019, two days shy of his 19th birthday from osteosarcoma. It was one of Jake's last wishes that his family continue doing the Jimmy fund walk to raise money for childhood cancer research.
They caught Jake's cancer early, and though he fought a courageous battle, it was a difficult one and in the end it was a terrible outcome. The same methods were used that were used with his uncle who died from the same disease in the '70s. There have been no new breakthroughs or treatments for Osteosarcoma in 40 years because there isn't a lot of funding that goes into childhood cancer research. "Childhood cancer research receives less than 4% of the annual budget from the national cancer institute," even though "childhood cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children under the age of 19 in the US." - National Pediatric Cancer Foundation.
So we walk and we raise funds to find new treatments so other kids won't have to go through what Jake went through. I thank you for supporting my Jimmy Fund Walk fundraising efforts. Together, we can conquer cancer!
