I am participating in the 2019 Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai, taking steps toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer!
Like many of you, my family has been directly impacted by cancer. In the late nineties, my mother underwent radiation therapy for a lump in her breast. Thankfully it was caught early, treated, and she is now doing well. It was hard for a 15 year old to understand what she was going through. In fact, she was so strong and optimistic, that I don't think I even remember much of the process. Talk about a strong woman!
In 2013 I got engaged. The same day my father found out he had stage 4 lung cancer. Not wanting to ruin my moment, he didn't tell me the news until I came home from my trip to Montreal. He asked that we move the wedding up so that he could be there and participate. With the support and treatment of his doctors at Dana-Farber and the Mass General Hospital Yawkey Cancer Center, he temporarily went into remission and walked me down the aisle. We were all rooting for his wellness and it was wonderful to see how happy he was that he did it! I was married in May of 2014. Dad passed in April of 2015. He lived a full year longer than his initial diagnosis and I have to believe that it was largely due to the attention, resources, and care of his doctors who were willing to try anything to beat cancer.
Today I'm asking for your donation to my walk campaign. When you make a gift to my walk, you’re directly supporting Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s unique 50-50 balance between cutting-edge science and highly compassionate cancer care. Your support allows Dana-Farber leaders to enhance programs and initiatives that serve pediatric and adult patients and their families.
Thank you for supporting my participation in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. Together, we can conquer cancer!
