I continue to walk each year to honor the strength and hope with which my sister lived through her Ovarian Cancer treatments at Dana Farber. I walk to ensure that her memory continues to propel me and others forward toward our goals and toward a cure for Ovarian Cancer.
Each year that I walk, it seems as though more loved ones have been added to the roster of those who have begun, are continuing, or have ended their journey with cancer. I am honored to carry their burdens with me as I walk as well as being carried by my thoughts of them.
Dana Farber not only works on cutting edge science to develop better, more targeted, and more effective treatments for cancers but provides resources and services to care for the patients and their families as people. This wrap-around care is what has sustained my family and so many others as they are touched by cancer.
The Ovarian Cancer Brigade has directed our research funds to The Dr. Ursula Matulonis Ovarian Cancer Research Fund at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Dr. Matulonis is dedicated to research, early detection, quality of life and ultimately and ideally-- a cure for ovarian cancer which if caught early enough is a highly treatable disease.
My goal is that my children and their loved ones will know cancer as a manageable chronic disease rather than a fatal one.
Thank you for supporting my participation in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. Together, we can conquer cancer!
