Team ED is back for its 7th Jimmy Fund Walk and 8th year fundraising for the Jimmy Fund and Dana Farber Cancer Institute. I walk in honor of my husband Ed, who was diagnosed in 2017 with multiple myeloma following a sacral fracture while on vacation in the Persian Gulf. Following an 11-day stay in an Omani hospital and air ambulance transport back to Boston, he spent more than a month at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in the care of BWH and Dana Farber specialists, all while bed bound, unable to walk or sit up and in excruciating pain. His treatment early on included radiation, spinal stabilization surgery, pain injections, extensive physical therapy, chemotherapy, bone strengthening infusions and an autologous stem cell transplant, all in the first 6 months following his diagnosis. Fast forward 7 years and Ed is doing well, despite the need for daily chemotherapy and regular bone strengthening injections. He is the strongest human I know - my hero and my inspiration. But there is no cure for myeloma and many other types of cancer, so I made a promise in 2017 to walk until there is a cure.
