I am participating in the 2020 Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk: Your Way, which happens to fall on my 32nd birthday. This is no coincidence to me, as there was a point where I was not sure I would even make it to my 30th birthday.
When you make a gift to my walk, you’re directly supporting Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s unique 50-50 balance between cutting-edge science and highly compassionate cancer care. Your support allows Dana-Farber leaders to enhance programs and initiatives that serve pediatric and adult patients and their families.
As some of you may know I found out that I had a brain tumor April 25, 2012 when my puppy Bentley (the hero pup!) knocked me over while we were playing and I hit my head.
I was taken to the ER and the CT scan showed a lime sized tumor in my right frontal lobe. I had surgery May 8, 2012 and completed a year of chemotherapy as well as radiation.
June 25, 2014 I underwent another surgery in the same spot, as my tumor had grown back. I went on chemotherapy again, as well as participating in a clinical trial.
Unfortunately a new tumor grew, this time in my left temporal lobe and after surgery I found out that it was a glioblastoma.
Over the past 8 years I have been under the care of the wonderful neuro-oncology team at Dana Farber and literally owe my life to them.
Thank you in advance and I hope you will walk "with me" on 10/4/20!
