It's time to walk again! I will be lacing up my shoes to complete the 26.2 mile 2019 Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk with Team Tara this September. I completed this course three years ago in 2016, and the experience is one I will never forget. That day, 9400 walkers raised over $8.3 million. Each 1/2 mile had inspirational placards to honor cancer survivors and medical staff. I have also walked the Atlanta 3-Day in 2011, so walking to conquer cancer is not new to me.
I walk for everyone I know that has battled and continues to battle cancer. I think it is not a matter of if but when for any of us and those dear to us. Doing what I can now to fight cancer is important to me. Often that fight involves going to another facility or different city to seek out cutting edge research or to participate in a clinical trial.
Funds raised in this walk benefit the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA - which serves both pediatric and adult patients. Dana-Farber is a world-class research and treatment facility. Advances there are implemented at other medical centers and facilities worldwide. Research is and should be globally shared.
Thank you for any contribution you are able to make - my goal this year is $2000. I can't wait to step away from the sidelines in September and know you will be with me every step of that way.
Here's to making a difference.....together!
