Many of you know that I have a strong family history of breast cancer - including my mom 2x, my aunt, and my cousin, to name just a few. I also carry the BRCA1 gene which puts me at a significantly higher risk. My sister opted for the prophylactic double mastectomy in 2019 (once she was done nursing) to significantly lower her risk, and one of my closest friends (in her 30s, super healthy & fit) battled breast cancer earlier this year - with no known family history or genetic mutation. I get checked frequently and have had countless conversations about my safest path forward. Nothing scares me more than this.
I am participating in the 2021 Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk because CANCER F*CKING SUCKS. When you make a gift to my walk, you’re directly supporting Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s unique 50-50 balance between cutting-edge science and compassionate patient care. Your support allows Dana-Farber leaders to enhance programs and initiatives that serve pediatric and adult patients and their families. These funds and this research could directly help me & my family someday, and will surely help many others like me (& their families).
Thank you SO much for your support -- it means the world to me.
