Hi! I am participating in the 2020 Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk: Your Way presented by Hyundai, taking steps toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer!
Cancer has been a curse to my family and friends. My maternal grandmother and mother-in-law died from it. My Aunt Mildred, my Uncle John, and Uncle Phil all died from it. My wife Paula, her sister June, and our late daughter Sarah all had breast cancer, as did Paula's late cousins Mary and Denise, and her late Aunt Rita.
Many in Paula's family have the BRCA1 gene mutation that increases the chance of getting breast cancer. Cancer also took three of her grandparents and several of her aunts and uncles. Plus, two of my close friends have had leukemia.
So, as you can see, I want this disease gone yesterday!
This year, I'm joining Paula, June, daughter Megan, niece Theresa, and granddaughters MacKenzie and Lexi -- and Lexi's new husband John -- on the BRCA1 Team to raise funds for the Dana Farber Cancer Center. It seems like yesterday when I was driving Paula to the Dana for chemo treatments after her surgery and follow up appointments.
When you make a gift to my walk, you’re directly supporting Dana-Farber's unique 50-50 balance between cutting-edge science and highly compassionate cancer care. Your support allows Dana-Farber leaders to enhance programs and initiatives that serve pediatric and adult patients and their families.
Thank you for supporting my participation in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. Together, we can conquer cancer!
