It's time to pay it forward. Funds raised in the past have kept me alive by giving my team access to cutting edge treatments. It's my turn to help those who may come next, until we can find a cure.
Nice try cancer... but I'm still here.
My team and I are walking to support research for Metastatic Breast Cancer. In 2018 I stepped through the doors at DFCI and was instantly enveloped in a world of care. Every step of my cancer journey, my team has been indefatigable in their efforts to find a cure, and are the most caring and compassionate caregivers one could imagine.
After two surgeries, chemo, radiation, a year of adjuvant chemo, and hormone therapy, I was just beginning to find my new 'normal'. In January of 2020, less than five months after my last infusion, I learned my cancer had metastasized in my liver and lungs, and my care team came together stronger and more determined to help me fight. Metastatic Breast Cancer patients have a life expectancy of 12-48 months on average from diagnosis. Although the disease continues to progress, my team continues to find cutting edge medications to treat me and give me more time.
This past year with COVID restrictions and knowing I have a limited time, I am forever grateful for my teams insistence on giving me hope and continuing to help me fight. I have way too many people I want to hug, and places I want to travel when COVID is over.
I am hopeful that raising funds to find a cure will give everyone a fighting chance - and one day, we may have a world without cancer.
Thank you for supporting my Jimmy Fund Walk fundraising efforts. Together, we can conquer cancer.
