Over the past ten Septembers, I have walked only four times, and each one of those, "only" the 13 mile half marathon route.
This September 22 will mark my return to the fabled Hopkinton to Boston 26.2 mile course ONE LAST TIME with a renewed commitment as captain of TEAM MIRO POWERED BY PETE'S POSSE.
As most of you know, my dad Miro, lost his battle with prostate cancer in April 2005. Since then, I, along with family and friends, have participated in this event as members of Team Miro.
Last month, our dear friends' 38 year old son, Pete, was diagnosed with a grade 4 astrocytoma brain tumor. After two surgeries, he is now embarking on a rigorous regimen of chemotherapy and radiation. His incredibly talented Dana-Farber doctors are very optimistic about Pete's recovery.
With your help, the money raised by this Jimmy Fund Walk will be used for such things as studies and clinical trials. They will also allow Dana-Farber to attract, develop and retain the brightest minds who will lead the next generation of cancer care and research.
Cancer impacts all of us. With your help, we can move closer to the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer.
Thank you in advance for your generosity. I truly appreciate your support.
Also, whether you are able to donate or not, please send along the names of any loved ones stricken by this disease. I will proudly put their names on my number bib in honor and/or memory of that special person. It always provides me with added inspiration.
