Funny that you ask! A couple years ago I did my first Jimmy Fund Walk to support my cousins as they were marching in memory of their mom.
As it began, mile by mile it was enlightening and heartbreaking to see just how many are affected by cancer. Not only those walking, but those cheering on the sidelines, those who donate, those who share stories. And yet, something so devastating can build so much love and such a beautiful community.
BUT WHAT IS DANA-FARBER??
Great question - money raised supports the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute which is a comprehensive cancer treatment & research center. It is a principle teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School and a founding member of the Dana–Farber/Harvard Cancer Center, recognized by the National Cancer Institute. (So they're legit.)
Your support allows cancer leaders to enhance programs and initiatives that serve pediatric and adult patients and their families (my own understanding the great work of these people).
The Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk allows people to come together maybe in the joy of winning the fight, or the bond of maybe being not so lucky, and for me gives the time to stand together with family that I wish didn't live so far away.
Thank you for your support (verbal or financially!) If you can, please donate a bit.
