I am participating in the 2019 Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai, taking steps toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer!
In April, I was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer and began treatment under the care of Dr. Beth Overmoyer and the amazing IBC team at Dana Farber (Dr. Weiss, Ryan, Karen, Jen and all the nurses on the 9th floor) in May. While I still have a ways to go in my treatment plan, completing the walk does represent a huge milestone for me.
When you make a gift to my walk, you’re directly supporting Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s unique 50-50 balance between cutting-edge science and highly compassionate cancer care. Your support allows Dana-Farber leaders to enhance programs and initiatives that serve pediatric and adult patients and their families. As part of Team IBC, money I raise goes directly to the IBC research program at Dana Farber.
Here are some of projects that last year's donations funded:
• Maintaining our IBC registries (we have two so far, and a third tumor banking registry is in the pipeline).
• Educating our patients and our community through our newsletters and annual patient forum.
• Providing funding to send tissue samples and facilitate research collaboration to continue the innovative laboratory investigation of IBC from various labs at DFCI and throughout the country.
• Continuing correlative (laboratory science) studies in IBC-directed clinical trials-currently multi-institutional trial for triple negative IBC and ER positive IBC, with work being done towards opening a HER2 positive study.
Thank you for supporting my participation in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. Together, we can conquer cancer!
