In April of 2019 I was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer. After being seen by several oncologists in the Boston area, I found myself at Dana Farber meeting with Dr. Overmoyer, the Director of the IBC team. She took the time to explain my cancer, my treatment plan, and next steps clearly. From that moment on, I knew I was in the right place for my care.
Now, just over two years later, with active treatment over and followup treatment continuing for the foreseeable future, I am back to my passion of SCUBA diving. I truly feel that without the treatment and whole person care I received from Dr. Overmoyer, the doctors and nurses of the IBC team, and the
supportive care at the Zakim Center, I would not have gotten through the rigorous treatment program with the strength and drive to still be able to follow my passion.
Dana Farber is one of the few cancer centers in the country with a program dedicated solely to research and patient care for IBC. In the two years since my diagnosis, multiple clinical trials have begun, a new IBC diagnosis tool has been implemented, and several new drugs have been approved to treat IBC. I am walking to raise money that will directly support IBC research and
patient care and to help fund the next clinical trials and treatment
