WHY I'M FUNDRAISING WITH THE JIMMY FUND WALK TO FIGHT CANCER
Here is our story! In the fall of 2018 my husband Andy was diagnosed with rectal cancer. No words can describe the fear of hearing cancer, can't even imagine how he felt. Then in January of 2019 our daughter Sarah was diagnosed with a neuro endocrine tumor that was found in her appendix. It was hard enough hearing your husband at the age of 48 had cancer but then to be told your 18 old daughter, just a few months after your husbands diagnosis had cancer too was a complete sucker punch. The story doesn't end here because in the fall of 2019 Andy's mom, Marie (Nana) McDonnell, was diagnosed with rectal/colon cancer.
We are so lucky to live so close to some of the best hospitals in the country especially Dana Farber where all three of them received their care. Thankfully Andy and Sarah are both doing amazingly well. Andy is 2.5 years out since his diagnosis and has continued to receive great news at each follow up appointment. Sarah will continue to be in the care of Dana Farber for years to come but was fortunate that she had a slow growing form of cancer.
Sadly, Nana McDonnell, after a very brave fight passed away on December 3, 2020, just a little over a year from being diagnosed. This year we are walking in her honor and memory! She is sorely missed and loved very much! We are also walking in memory of Maryellen Ayers, our sister in laws mother, who also lost her fight with cancer a year ago this September.
So please join me in raising money for Dana Farber!
