This October my family and I will be walking with Team Giambanco for our 6th Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk to support cancer care and research for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This year is our second year walking without my grandfather.
As many know, my Papa passed away in March 2022 from Leukemia. His diagnosis started in 2007 as Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) and eventually progressed in 2021 to Leukemia.
He and my Nana spent many days at Dana-Farber Hospital in Boston and would always share with me their stories from the week and rave about their favorite food they got at the cafe. The doctors and nurses at Dana-Farber treated him and my family with such grace and dignity and I know that’s just what was needed.
I was able to spend my grandfather’s final week with him alongside my family and those are memories I will cherish forever. I know he was happy listening to all of our stories and advice we have received from him and even a few bad dad-jokes to make him smile. I was also able to get as many hugs in as possible and tell him I loved him every night before heading home.
This year I will walk the entire 26.2 miles Boston marathon route for my Papa to raise awareness of all kinds of cancer and donate and give back to Dana-Farber for all that it has given to my Papa and my family.
If you are able to donate please visit my link or please share my post to help spread awareness.
Thank you!
