My name is Ciara Dunleavy and I am a senior at Beverly High School. I am participating in the 2020 Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk: Your Way presented by Hyundai, taking steps toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer!
I have decided to participate in this walk because of Riley Fessenden and her story. In the middle of December 2012, 6-year-old Riley Fessenden was diagnosed with an extremely rare nasal cancer and was told that she wouldn't make it to Christmas. Riley continued to battle her illness every day for the next 3 years with a smile on her face and hope in her heart. Riley touched the entire city of Beverly and many surrounding cities and has left an impact on all of us still to this day. On July 20th, 2016, Riley lost her battle with cancer at the age of 9.
Cam Jones, Mike Mercier, and I started working with the Riley Rocks Memorial Foundation. We are in the process of planning multiple fundraisers during the month of September since it is Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month. Our goal is to raise awareness for the little heroes who have lost their battle and those who are still battling this scary disease. 🎗
When you make a gift to my walk, you’re directly supporting Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s unique 50-50 balance between cutting-edge science and highly compassionate cancer care. Your support allows Dana-Farber leaders to enhance programs and initiatives that serve pediatric and adult patients and their families.
Thank you for supporting my participation in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. Together, we can conquer cancer!
