I am participating in the 2022 Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai, taking steps toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer.
In today's world, we likely have all been affected by cancer in one way or another--having a diagnosis ourselves, caring for a loved one, or witnessing a co-worker or friend undergo treatments. In my work at Dana Farber for the past 5 years, I work alongside patients and caregivers who are undergoing treatments for liver, pancreatic, colon, rectal, stomach, neuroendocrine, esophageal, and unknown primary cancers. I often will hear people say, "I feel so helpless at times not knowing how to help or what to do with someone going through cancer". Sometimes the best things that people can use during their treatments are resources--providing an extra ride to treatments, or a gas/grocery gift card to help offset other high costs i.e.. insurance bills/medications/accommodations. We have a fund at DFCI that directly helps patients to take care of those basic needs so that they can focus more on their treatments & getting through the best they can. I am walking this year as a way of supporting my patients and their loved ones as they continue their fight each and every day. We also whole heartedly believe in self-sustaining measures in order to be the most effective social workers to our patients. In order to do that, we also raise money to have social work events throughout the year.
Thank you so much for supporting my Jimmy Fund Walk fundraising efforts. Together, we can defy cancer!
