When I was diagnosed with stage 4 mantle cell lymphoma, it was a complete shock to say the least. Luckily, my amazing family and friends were always there with lots of love and support.
Early on, while seeking a second opinion, one doctor told me “I’m not going to waste your time. What I can do for you is give you a referral to Dana-Farber. That is where you need to be”. He was so right! When I arrived at DFCI, I knew immediately. This really was, exactly where I needed to be. The positive energy was palpable. We met with my specialist that day. He was honest with me. It was going to be hard. I got it. But I was optimistic and felt so much confidence in him and the entire team. I realized that I had already made the decision to move forward with the treatment plan he was recommending. I was past the shock and ready to fight.
Today, I am more than two years post stem cell transplant and remain cancer free! I am still a patient at DFCI and have maintenance treatments every eight weeks. During my visits, I love seeing my doctor’s excitement as he tells me about new breakthroughs and advances in treatment options. The Jimmy Fund is supporting all this research. And these new options he describes, may be my options someday.
This is why I’m walking. I want to raise the research funds needed to keep finding better treatments, for myself, as well as all my fellow warriors…..and someday find a real cure!
Join me in stAMPing out cancer. We can do this together.
