On October 2, 2022 I will be participating in my third Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk, taking steps toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer. I am excited that this will be the first year that my friend Jodie and I will actually be walking the 26.2 mile Boston Marathon Route and not walking virtually and solo all over Londonderry.
I am choosing to walk this year in honor of my cousin John’s daughter Lisa who, early in 2021 at age 17, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She courageously endured 6 months of chemo followed by radiation treatments during her Junior and Senior years of High School. Lisa proudly “rang the bell” just before Christmas, 2021. Lisa is doing well, graduated from High School this past June and has just headed off to start a new chapter as a freshman in college.
When you make a gift to my Walk, you’re directly supporting Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s unique 50-50 balance between cutting-edge research and compassionate patient care. Your support allows Dana-Farber leaders to enhance programs and initiatives that serve pediatric and adult patients and their families. Our team “Young and Strong” specifically is raising funds for support programs for women who were diagnosed, like Lisa and Jodie, at a young age.
If you are able, please consider a monetary donation to my Jimmy Fund Walk fundraising efforts. Any amount, large or small truly makes a difference. If you are unable to support financially, please be praying for all of us who will be walking the 26.2 miles on October 2nd and also for all those cancer patients and survivors for whom we are walking. Together, we can defy cancer, one step at a time.
