I walk for my stepmother, Alicia Figueroa. She was a woman of grace and integrity, who saw a lost and lonely eighteen-year-old girl and took her under her wing, showing me nothing but unconditional love and support.
Alicia was an amazing mother, daughter, friend, partner, and if I may say so, a force to be reckoned with in the courtroom. She touched my heart with her generosity and kindness, and not a day goes by where her laugh and smile do not play in my mind. I walk because I dream of a day, in my lifetime I hope, where a disease as vile as this one no longer has the power and free rein to take all our loved ones from us so brutally and so prematurely. I walk for Alicia's children, family, and friends who she should still be here for.
And lastly, I walk for my father, Five years ago, Alicia walked into his life and glued the cracks of his heart together and I was lucky enough to get to watch the smile on his face return after so many years of its absence.
