TeamCat will once again walk for the Jimmy Fund for our third year. In the first two years, thanks to the donations of our friends and family, our team of four raised a total of $32,228. We directed the funds we raised to Ovarian Cancer Research at Dana Farber.
Did you know that ~20,000 women are diagnosed annually with ovarian cancer and approximately ~13,000 women die each year from ovarian cancer? Since ovarian cancer is often not detected at an early stage, ovarian cancer research and advances are critical to improving the survival rate for all women diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
Unfortunately, there are often no early symptoms of ovarian cancer and there is also no reliable screening test for the early detection of ovarian cancer. The combination of these two facts leads to the majority of ovarian cancer cases being diagnosed when the disease is already advanced, this seriously compromises a woman's survival rate.
The most common symptoms of ovarian cancer are: bloating, pelvic or abdominal (belly) pain, feeling full quickly, and urinary symptoms (such as urgency or frequency.) By the time ovarian cancer is considered as a possible cause of these symptoms, it usually has already spread, often times rapidly spreading to nearby organs. If you, your wife, your sister, your daughter, your friend, or anyone you know has any of these symptoms, do something about it. Early diagnosis may improve your (or their) odds for successful treatment.
By participating in the 2023 Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai, our team is making every step count toward improving the survival rate for women diagnosed with ovarian cancer and the ultimate finish line: a world without any type of cancer.
Thank you for supporting our team in the Jimmy Fund Walk. Together, we can crush cancer!
