In June of 2023, life changed for 2 year old Colin when a tumor was found on his kidney. The only “C” word he knew up to that point was Car. How do you tell a 2 year old they have Cancer? You don’t. He wouldn’t understand. But we all do.
He never asks why he has to go under anesthesia so they can take pictures of his “boo-boo” or why we have to drive to Boston so they can poke his little chest with a needle to pump chemo into him. He never asks why he feels so crummy in the days following or why we have to force oral meds in him multiple times a week. He just does it all…with his stuffed bunny Harry by his side and usually a toy car in hand…happy to be with mama and dadda.
While it is every parents worst nightmare to hear the words,”your child has cancer”, we have found the fear and sadness that comes with any cancer diagnosis to be combatted with just as much support and compassion we have received from the amazing team at Dana Farber and the Jimmy Fund Clinic. They are the silver lining for us in all of this.
Colin will get the chance that so many children before him didn't; he’ll get the chance to grow up. That's a gift that exists because of all the contributions made before him.
Thank you for supporting our Jimmy Fund Walk fundraising efforts. Together, we can defy cancer!
