Bucky Rogers was formed after Team Captain, Kimmy Salley, lost her grandfather, Harold "Bucky" Rogers to acute leukemia in August 2006. Bucky was a dedicated father, grandfather, and best friend. Since his passing, the team has vowed to always raise awareness and monetary support of Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund.
On Sunday, October 1, the team will be lacing its shoes for the 18th time, in an attempt to collectively raise $100,000 since its inception! With less than $14,000 to go, your gift of any size, will help us near this amazing milestone.
Over the course of 18 walks, we have sadly lost many more of our family and friends to cancer--but we have witnessed great strides in research and treatment. Dana-Farber has helped extend the lives of those that have battled or are battling cancer and we are extremely grateful for the gift of extended life we have been given.
We walk because we can. We walk because we care. We walk because we love you.
We will always walk proudly and in honor and in memory of your loved ones. Like the previous two years, Kimmy is dedicating this walk in honor of her "Auntie" Claire Fowler, who has battled a rare neuroendocrine carcinoma for the past 2.5 years. Miraculously, and thanks to Dana-Farber's treatment plan, Claire has far exceeded her original prognosis of living less than a year. Unfortunately, her recent scans have revealed further spread throughout her body and very minimal time left with us. Since her wish is to celebrate her 70th birthday at the end of October, and to welcome her 9th grandbaby into the world, she is currently seeking out another experimental drug treatment plan.
While we cannot picture a world without Claire in it, it is extremely hard to fathom her not being here. She has been like a second mom to Kimmy and her two sisters, and a best friend of over 51 years to their mom. And so it's our team's hope that you will join us in making a gift in honor of Claire--so that others can also experience the gift of extended life with their loved ones, and with luck, a cure.
With love and appreciation,
Team Bucky Rogers
