A word from our team's captain Lesley Shepherd -
As some of you may already know, I was diagnosed with cancer this year. Nothing could have prepared me for hearing the positive diagnosis. I saw my life, past and present, flash before me. I had moved to Boston in 2019 and found myself exactly where I needed to be by Longwood.
My medical care began at Dana Farber and will end the year at Brigham and Women's. There is a lot of fear that comes with the unknown and it requires trust and strength to fight for your life. On most days I wake up with my usual smile, always hopeful. A lesson learned from my mother.
What I have discovered here in the medical community is that it is made up of such precise expertise, people with compassion, technology beyond our dreams and held together by people that present it with such grace. How lucky I have been to be here in Boston (not far from where I was born) in this cancer fight.
I walk for the Jimmy Fund to pass the baton in sharing compassion and grace for others that I receive almost daily here. So lucky to have my family by my side.
My favorite word for the year is hope. I wanted to name our team that but Team Shepherd is my family and together we hope and more. I am grateful for them and all of you that have reached out and have been here for me. Compassion, grace and hope.
Please donate if you can.
Forever smiling,
Lesley
