Just over five years ago Saskia was diagnosed with leukemia (ALL). It was devastating and incomprehensible that our wild beautiful daughter had cancer. Fortunately, her type of cancer was very treatable, with a 95% success rate, but the treatment required 2 1/2 years of chemotherapy. The first month of this she needed to stay in the hospital; the next eight months required trips multiple times a week into the hospital for chemotherapy, and treatment of the side effects that went with it - blood clots, brain scans, pneumonia, mouth ulcers, blood transfusions, and more needles than you can imagine. After that it became a once monthly routine regimen of medications - chemotherapy, steroids, antibiotics, stomach protectors.
Thanks to the hard work and dedication of a huge team of physicians assistants, nurses, doctors, art therapists, child life specialists, researchers and scientists, Saskia is cancer free.
She is happy, strong, and healthy, and is now part of the survivorship clinic at the Jimmy Fund.
Any donation, no matter how small, will help kids like Saskia not only survive cancer, but thrive during treatment. Thank you so much.
