WHY WE'RE FUNDRAISING WITH THE JIMMY FUND WALK TO FIGHT CANCER
The Jason & Mo Friendship Fund team's name represents the friendship shared by Jason and Mo Vaughn, the Red Sox first baseman.
Mo had called Jason on his 11th birthday when Jason was in the hospital and unable to be home for his birthday. Mo was impressed with Jason's upbeat attitute and an immediate friendship developed. Mo told Jason he would try to hit a home run for him. Mo did hit a home run and it made national news.
Jason got the opportunity to meet Mo in person and throw out the first pitch at a Red Sox game. Jason and Mo kept in touch and met several times after their first telephone conversation.
The Jason & Mo Friendship Fund team was formed in 1994, after Jason lost his 4 year battle with cancer at the age of 12. That year, and every year since, Jason's family and friends have come together to celebrate Jason's life and participate in the Jimmy Fund Walk.
