WHY WE'RE FUNDRAISING WITH THE JIMMY FUND WALK TO FIGHT CANCER

My father, Joseph F. Lydon III, was someone who lived his life with one simple, yet very impactful mission: to Follow the Love.

Joey was always known for lighting up a room, and for never failing to bring a smile to the faces of his loved ones. His love and loyalty to those in his circle- whether that be friends, family, peers, or co-workers- was absolutely unconditional. Growing up, my father always expressed the importance of kindness and helping others to us as his children. Moreover, he also raised us on the principle that if you get knocked down, you get back up, and you fight back even harder.

To say the very least, Joey was a fighter. After a series of misdiagnoses, he was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer in April of 2018. He received the most incredible care from the hardest working and most compassionate health care professionals at Dana Farber. My father never once backed down from his battle with cancer. He fought with courage and determination, and he never once lost his smile.

In November of 2019, Joey lost his battle after a year and a half long fight. As his oldest daughter, I can say that there is not a day that goes by where I do not miss him. Yet, there has also not been a day in my life over the past six years where I have not felt immense gratitude towards the doctors and nurses at Dana Farber who did everything that they could to help support my father in his fight against cancer, and provide our family with the essence of hope for a future with a cure.

In memory of Joey's incredible life, my family and I are taking a stand to defy cancer by fundraising for The Jimmy Fund through Dana Farber. 50% of all proceeds go towards funding cancer research, and the other 50% goes directly into funding patient care for those who are currently fighting their battle.

With your help, we can take a stand, and fight back to defy cancer together!
