Why we walk: Every year, about 80,000 young adults ages 18-39 are diagnosed with cancer in the United States. Young adults with cancer face very different challenges than those who are diagnosed earlier in childhood or later in adulthood, such as coping with uncertainty as a young person, adjusting to diagnosis and treatment, feeling alone, communicating with peers, family, and caregivers, and challenges to personal identity. We walk to lessen the emotional burden of cancer and be there for each other as a stronger community together.
Who we are: We are a group of young adult patients, caregivers, supporters, and friends who walk together to support Dana-Farber’s Young Adult Program (YAP). YAP provides emotional support services, opportunities to meet other young adults receiving care, and educational programs aimed at enhancing knowledge and self-advocacy skills.
Where the money goes: Unrestricted support for the Young Adult Program’s services, programs, and resources that directly benefit patients and families.
2024 Fundraising Goal: $30,000
Walk Day Plans: We always welcome new members and would love for you to join us by walking in-person, walking your way, or supporting our fundraising efforts here.
