On October 6, Lorraine's Team will return to the Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai, where we will walk our second 5K for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Our team is making every step count toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer.
Your support goes directly to Dana-Farber's unique 50-50 balance between cutting-edge research and compassionate patient care. Funds raised through the Jimmy Fund Walk enable Dana-Farber leaders to enhance programs and initiatives that serve pediatric and adult patients and their families. And more specifically, funds raised by Lorraine's Team will go toward ovarian cancer research in honor of Lorraine Harrington, who passed away from ovarian cancer in 2007.
Thank you for supporting our team in the Jimmy Fund Walk. Together, we can defy cancer. Because of your generosity, we raised over $3000 last year. Let's top that amount in 2024!
Ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer-related death among American women. In 2024, about 19,680 women will receive a new diagnosis of ovarian cancer and about 12,740 women will die from the disease. Unfortunately, most cases are diagnosed in later stages, when the prognosis is poor. However, if diagnosed and treated early, the five-year survival rate is over 90%.
If you or a loved one has ovarian cancer, the ovarian cancer team at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's Gynecologic Oncology Program is here to help. The internationally recognized team of experts at the Susan F. Smith Center for Women's Cancers is dedicated to providing compassionate care and personalized diagnosis, treatment, and support to ovarian cancer patients and their loved ones.
