This year we are walking in honor of Grampy, Jack Ryan. Diagnosed in January with cholangiocarcinoma, bile duct cancer , we began our journey with Dana Farber and Jimmy Fund. Our journey began with being introduced to one of the best doctors in the area, Dr. Thomas Clancy. That’s right our own Jack Ryan was being seen by his creator Tom Clancy . This “Clear and present danger “ was of course the “ Sum of all Fears” and would be no “Hunt for red October” to treat but Dr. Clancy and Dr Wolpin and their team took this case on and told our family we are all working together on this next great novel together.
After months of extremely aggressive chemotherapy Jack Ryan and Tom Clancy went in for their surgery which is called the whipple. Ironic to us because Jack lives on Whipple road. The surgery went well and recovery started. Two and a half weeks after the surgery ,a trip to our local hospital by ambulance because of lightheaded and fainting turned very serious very quickly. We found out he was bleeding internally when they did a cat scan and then he began vomiting blood. The emergency room doctor on call was an amazing Dr who helped intubate him before they medflighted him back to Brigham and Women’s. He brought us into a room before doing so and he was explaining to everything to us and left us to get him into the helicopter. We turned around to leave and noticed the name of the room. It was called the Jack Clancy Room… what are the odds. Two more surgeries, a stay in the icu / 2 weeks in the hospital he is now on the road to recovery. We are eternally grateful for the medical team at Dana Farber, Brigham and Women’s and the Jimmy fund for doing this work day in and day out.
Thank you for supporting our team in the Jimmy Fund Walk. Together, we can defy cancer!
