WHY WE'RE FUNDRAISING WITH THE JIMMY FUND WALK TO FIGHT CANCER

Reflections on Why I Walk for the Jimmy Fund

“On November 28, 2017, our son called to tell us that our then 10-year-old grandson, Graham, had been diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a nasty pediatric brain tumor. It was like I was kicked in the stomach and my heart shattered all in a flash of time.”

“The odds for him were not great, and I felt helpless, but then I heard about the Jimmy Fund Walk. I instantly knew that this was what I had been looking for: a way to be a part of the solution. I never dreamt of walking a marathon, but I was determined to do it.”

“One day, Graham’s mom shared a quote, ‘The one who moves mountains begins by carrying small stones.’ The Jimmy Fund Walk was my way to move small stones to dismantle this mountain we faced. The donations I was able to gather from family and friends would go to the dedicated scientists at Dana-Farber to enable them to continue finding new therapies to give us all hope.”

“I walk as the sole member of Team #grahamstrong, and I cherish the meditative day it gifts me. I walk at my own body’s pace and it takes me just under 12 hours to complete the 26.2-mile journey. I will continue to walk and support the Jimmy Fund for years to come.

“I am eternally grateful to the life Dana-Farber has restored to Graham, and I am a firm believer and lover of science and all its mysteries. As of June 2021, Graham’s scan showed no evidence of disease or recurrence. How great is that?! Even though our mountain has not completely vanished, it sits to the side of our lives instead of blocking our path forward.”
