Charge of the Lydon Brigade...

We are walking for my husband, Joe, who lost his battle with colon cancer at age 49.  Joe was originally misdiagnosed with diverticulitis and was treated as such for approximately 3 months.  We joined the Dana Farber family once he was accurately diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer.  Dana Farber provided us with hope, support and compassion through every step of the journey.  They not only treated Joe, but they supported our entire family, including our 4 children.  They viewed Joe not just as a cancer patient, but also as a young father, husband and active member of his community.

We have created our team CHARGE OF THE LYDON BRIGADE in Joe's memory and plan to direct our funds to research and patient care of early onset colon cancer.  Unfortunately Joe's story is not unusual.  Many people under 50 are being diagnosed with late stage colon cancer.  They face unique challenges to include family planning, maintaining active status in the workforce and community, and parenting young children- just to name a few.  Joe was one of two parents in my son's first grade class who had stage IV colon cancer!  The other parent was a single mom who was diagnosed in her 30's.  She passed away one month before Joe.

I hope that our story and funding may help prevent the late stage cancer diagnoses in younger adults.  Colon cancer is preventable with early screenings, and it responds well to treatment if caught early!!  Please join us in our charge...

Thank you for supporting our team in the Jimmy Fund Walk. Together, we can conquer cancer!
