On August 18, hundreds of Dana-Farber runners, including myself, will participate in the 52nd running of the ASICS Falmouth Road Race! I am training to run 7-miles along Cape Cod’s scenic coastline, while raising critical funds that directly support Dana-Farber Cancer Institute patients and families, in New England and around the world.
Unfortunately, I have witnessed many family and friends who have been diagnosed with this life-altering disease. I have watched them bravely battle the endless appointments, surgeries and treatments.
In December 2022, one month after my 50th birthday, I was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. It was the last thing I expected to hear when I showed up to the ER with pain and vomiting.
Luckily, I had an amazing team of surgeons and oncologists who put together a plan for me. Surgery followed by 6 months of chemotherapy seems like a blur now. On July 3rd 2023, I completed my last round of chemo and have been feeling better and stronger everyday since. I have been able to start running again and was sent an email about running the Falmouth road race with Dana Farber and I knew I had to do it!
Every mile and each donation, no matter the size, supports The Dana-Farber Campaign, the Institute’s ambitious, multi-year fundraising effort, focused on supporting revolutionary research, extraordinary care, exceptional expertise, and other priorities, to help Dana-Farber accomplish its mission of preventing, treating, and defying cancer.
Thank you for your support! Together, we are helping Dana-Farber race toward the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer.
