My twin sister, Elizabeth (Izz), was diagnosed with Essential Thrombocythemia (ET), a chronic myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN), also known as a chronic blood cancer back in 2016. Once diagnosed she began being followed at Dana Farber by Dr. Mullally. In addition to providing patient care, Dr. Mullally leads a research lab at Dana Farber/Brigham and Women's. The overarching goal of the research is to advance the understanding of the biology of MPN and to translate this into improved treatment options for patients dealing with these diseases.
For treatment, Izz takes Interferon twice a month. This treatment makes her feel as though she has the flu for 24 hours. Although I am thankful there is a treatment to keep her healthy and safe, it is hard to watch her feel so sick. She's one of the strongest and most determined people I know. One day, I hope there's an improved treatment option for Izz and all others with ET.
Thank you in advance for any donation you're able to give!
